三条高瀬川

東京・日本橋と、京都・三条大橋をつなぐ、江戸時代の五街道のひとつである「中山道」の起点、終着点であり、京都市内と伏見を陸路だけではなく、水路で結ぶことで、大阪から京都市内への物資の輸送をスムーズにした「高瀬川」。人々の営みと歴史が重ねられてきたこの場所は、私が建築の可能性を感じた場所の一つです。いつも街を歩いていた時は、何気なく通っていることもありましたが、ある時、この場所に元気をもらえたような感覚になり、込み上げる感謝の気持ちを込めて目の前の風景を絵にしました。
The Takase River is the starting and ending point of the Nakasendo, one of the five highways of the Edo period, connecting Nihonbashi in Tokyo with the Sanjo Ohashi Bridge in Kyoto and linking Kyoto City and Fushimi not only by land but also by water, which facilitated the transport of goods from Osaka to Kyoto City. This place, with its layers of people’s activities and history, is one of the places where I felt the potential of architecture. When I was always walking through the city, I used to pass by it casually, but one day, I felt as if this place gave me energy, and I painted the landscape in front of me with a feeling of gratitude that filled me up.

細い山道の中、参拝ルートの途中で、木々の間から見える、清水寺の舞台を支えている木組みを、目を凝らして描きました。ひっきりなしに人通りがありましたが、振り返って立ち止まる人が少ない穴場だったので、私の姿を見て、同じところから写真を撮る人があったり、人の動きが変わる瞬間を目撃するのが楽しかったです。
On the narrow mountain path, on the way to the temple, I painted the wooden structure supporting the stage of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, which I could see through the trees with my eyes. There was a constant flow of people, but it was a rare spot on the road where few people turned around and stopped, so I enjoyed witnessing people who saw me and took photos from the same place and when people’s movements changed.

夕方から夜へと色を変えていく御堂筋の町を喫茶店の店内から描きました。太陽が沈み、お店の賑やかなネオンが目立ち始める時間と空間を楽しみながら描きました。
I painted the town of Midosuji, changing colour from evening to night from inside a coffee shop. I enjoyed the time and space as the sun set and the busy neon lights of the shops began to stand out.

フリンダースストリート駅は、メルボルンの中でも、終日利用客も多く、主要な駅の一つです。この駅からトラムに乗り換えたりするので、行きは、うきうきする気持ちで１日が始まり、帰りはおかえりと温かく迎えてくれるような存在感のある駅でした。
Flinders Street Station is one of the main stations in Melbourne, and many passengers use it throughout the day. As you change trams from this station, the station’s presence makes you start your day with excitement on the way there and a warm welcome back on the way home.

四条河原町

「鴨川をどり」の赤ちょうちんが、風に吹かれて大きく揺れる５月。この、ゆったり揺れるちょうちんのように、心躍る人々が行き交う四条河原町を描きました。
The red lanterns of the Kamogawa Odori dance festival sway in the wind in May. Like these slowly swaying lanterns, I drew a picture of Shijo-Kawaramachi, where people come and go happily.
